DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
Gene McCormick has been doing construction for over thirty-three years. We take pride in the work we do and want every project to be the best. We specialize in exterior projects for commercial and residential improvements. It is important to have a contractor who is skilled in more than one trade because all of the trades effect each other. The installation of a window can involve siding, plumbing, electrical, concrete and carpentry. I remember a long time ago when I was helping rebuild an arbor. I asked the other guys on the project why don't we put something on top of the wood to protect it, so it doesn't rot again. Because of my suggestion, we put metal on top and the arbor is still in good shape, at three times the age of the one we replaced. This knowledge came from roofing, being intelligent and understanding physical properties of materials and the environment. Have you ever wondered why one retaining wall has white film on it and the one next door doesn't. It is because of water proofing. Your contractor should discuss these things with you before you agree to let them do your work. On the other side of the coin I have seen huge amounts of mold caused by the carless positioning of a sprinkler and gardeners who did not know it was happening even though the signs were apparent and obvious to me and should have been obvious to them. I have seen sprinklers rot out hundreds of lineal feet of framing and the siding. Millions (billions) of dollars and valuable resources are thrown away every year because of lack of training, knowledge or carelessness. You can help, hire the best, we know of no other contractor with higher building standards. Most of our services are done with Quality Technology in mind. That I guess is “Green” But the basic idea of green is what My parents taught waste not want not when I was a kid. Anyway our projects are built with the idea of fire resistance, longevity, reduced maintenance, low Impact on the environment and/or reduction of energy consumption. When possible we strive for all of these. Little things like metal or modified bitumen on top of horizontal members (adding less than 1% to the cost) can extend the life of a product ten fold. FREE YEARLY INSPECTIONS (yes it is free I will probably find something that needs attention and might have a nice chat)(free on single family residential only) can spot areas that are wearing out, out of place or need attention. Tens (hundreds?) of thousands of buildings in San Diego alone have slipped tiles and just need the put back in place. A two to five hundred dollar repair that will increase in cost to ten to one hundred times that cost if not corrected. That price does not include the damage to the ceiling or furniture and the fun of having water come in your home. In the recent storm I have seen a lot of folks with there homes torn apart because of water intrusion. (raises all of our insurance rates), It did not need to happen Call us, you will be glad you did!
