This product is used to protect the top of exposed beams. It prevents moisture from coming in the top of the beam. This prevents rot from forming in the most common spot. Usually the top is just painted and that wears off years before the side leading the building owner believing that the wood is still protected when actually dew is seeping in every night. It come in the standard widths of wood so no trimming just peel and stick. Put this on top of the wood and don't have to rebuild in 10 years.
