The types of roofing material for low sloped roofs are BUR, TPO, Modified Bitumen, PVC, Metal, EPDM Shingles (down to 2” in 12”) and Vegetative |
|
BUR = Built Up Roof System comes in 3 types.
All 3 consist of a base sheet for movement and separation from the building. Ply sheets which are set in heated asphalt or tar (in our area it is asphalt) and a top layer (protective). This layered system built upon itself thus the name. these systems are specified by the manufacture, not roofers, make sure you are getting a actual specified system.
Aggregate which is gravel top coating—the aggregate is place on top to protect it actual roof from the sun and also pulls water away from the roof with capillary action. The disadvantage is it is harder to find a leak in this style of roof.
Cap sheet which is finished with a layer of roll roofing called cap sheet or reflective foil
Coated which is coated with a liquid membrane, which can be metallic, white or even black in color. It is best to go with a reflective coating on this style of roof in Southern California |
